ADMH & Grove Nursing Home Auxiliary Continue to Demonstrate Leadership

Arnprior, ON, April 18, 2007.  The Auxiliary, which serves Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital and The Grove Nursing Home has committed $80,000 for 2007.  $60,000 will be allocated to the equipment needs of the Partners in Caring Campaign to renovate the Emergency Department and $20,000 will be allocated to purchasing four electric beds and an Intravenous Pump for the Grove Nursing Home.  This is just another remarkable act of kindness in a history of dedicated service by the Auxiliary.

Since 1961, the Auxiliary has played a vital role in the development of the hospital.  Through fundraising, partnerships with the community and assisting staff to provide the best possible care for patients and residents, the more than 300 Auxiliary members demonstrate their community leadership every day through their tireless efforts.

The Auxiliary runs a variety of ventures and initiatives.  The Opportunity Shop, managed by Jean Whissing and Treasurer Irene Bruce, has raised approximately $900,000 for the hospital since the shop opened its doors in 1974.  The Gift Shop, managed by Bernice O’Connor and Treasurer Donna Smith, began in the 1960’s as the “shop on wheels.” Today it plays a vital role in Auxiliary fundraising.  The HELPP Lottery, coordinated by Ron Anglin and run by volunteers is a fundraising program in partnership with Giant Tiger.  Staff at Giant Tiger take care of ticket sales and the Auxiliary coordinate the tickets and revenue.

“The Auxiliary feels that its contribution will be best utilized for the purchase of equipment,” commented Joan Booth.  In September 2007, Joan (the current President of the Auxiliary), will celebrate her 19th year as an active member.  Joan has committed much of her life to volunteerism and believes strongly that it is important to give your time and effort to making a difference in the community.

The $60,000 allocated to the Partners in Caring Campaign to renovate the Emergency Department will bring the campaign closer to its goal. Joan added, “This project has been discussed for a long time.  Now it is time to take action!”
