Hockey, healthy competition and philanthropy:
ADHS Grade 12 Leadership Class gets into the spirit!

Arnprior, ON, December 22, 2006 –  Jessica Young’s grade 12 leadership class raised $1,000 dollars for the Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital’s Partners in Caring Campaign to renovate the Emergency Department.

The funds were raised on December 11, when the Midget All-Stars faced the Arnprior Alumni All-Stars in a game at Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior.   The teams included members of the community and students playing midget level hockey.  The town of Arnprior donated the ice time for the fundraising event.

The game was an exciting contest, with the old-timers’ experience prevailing over the Midgets’ conditioning. The game was entertaining for spectators and participants alike, and provided lots of exciting playmaking.

John Carkner, one of the organizers and Co-Chair of the Partners in Caring Campaign accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital and added, “This was a great initiative on the part of the students, not just for the money raised for the campaign, but for the awareness of the campaign and its goals. This leadership project by the students reinforces the message that all of us in the community will need to get involved to make a campaign of this scope a success.”

About the Campaign
The Partners in Caring Campaign is a fundraising initiative to raise $3.5 million to renovate the Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department. The renovations to the Emergency Department will lead to better health care and more effective patient service. The over-riding objective is to create a state of the art facility that meets the needs of patients from across the service area.  The community phase of the campaign will officially be launched in the spring of 2007.
