Volunteer/Auxiliary Services

Since 1961, the Hospital Auxiliary has been the channel by which members of the community can support the hospital and The Grove Nursing Home, through fund-raising programs and by assisting staff in patient and resident care. It began when a group of women saw a need for sewing and mending items for the hospital. Over the years, the Auxiliary has grown, adding programs to meet the changing needs of the hospital and the nursing home.

Our Mission Statement
The Auxiliary to the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital is a group of dedicated volunteers who assist Health Care Providers at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital and The Grove - Arnprior and District Nursing Home. We do this by helping to bring quality care and comfort to patients and residents in a spirit of generosity and compassion.

As we strive to reflect the care of our community, Auxiliary Volunteers participate in approved fundraising activities and community partnerships. (September 2001).

What is the volunteer program?
The Coordinator of Voluntary Services works closely with the Hospital Auxiliary to provide volunteer services within the hospital and nursing home. There are over 300 volunteers who provide over 22,000 hours of service annually.

Volunteers at the hospital and nursing home contribute in a variety of areas: serving customers in the Opportunity Shop and Gift Shop to helping with patient activities, administering the HELPP lottery, and assisting in an office or distributing magazines. You may volunteer several times a week or once a month - whatever suits your schedule and interests.

New volunteers:
New volunteers are made aware of the various programs and are placed according to their abilities, preferences and need. Volunteers receive a thorough orientation to their new position and automatically become members of the Auxiliary.

Youth Volunteers
Volunteers are the back bone of our organization and play an important role with our patients and residents. We are especially happy to welcome youth volunteers.
